School Counselor, Eastview Elementary

Big heart. Boundless creativity. A passion for helping kids discover their potential.

As a school counselor at Eastview Elementary, Andrea Ledesma helps students navigate more than academics. She teaches fourth and fifth graders how to manage big feelings, build healthy relationships, set boundaries, and find the courage to ask for help. Her greatest strength is creating a space where children feel safe enough to be themselves, share their struggles, celebrate their victories, and believe in what they can become.

Andrea's path to education began with a commitment to helping people through life's challenges. Her experience in Milwaukee, supporting adults with behavioral and mental health challenges, and in Albuquerque, helping individuals and families experiencing homelessness secure housing, shaped her understanding of the importance of compassion, advocacy, and meeting people where they are. Today, she brings that same heart for service into her work with students in Lake Geneva.

At Eastview, Andrea goes beyond the counseling office to help students connect classroom learning with the world around them. Through cultural celebrations recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month, Indigenous Peoples Day, Black History Month, and Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian Heritage Month, she encourages students and staff to explore different perspectives and appreciate the people and stories that make their community unique.

One of Andrea's proudest accomplishments is helping grow Purposeful People, a student service and leadership club that turns good intentions into meaningful action. Students have raised more than $200 for Lakeland Animal Shelter, created pet blankets for shelter animals, and assembled more than 20 birthday kits for the Lake Geneva Food Pantry. Through these projects, Andrea gives young people something powerful: the chance to discover that they don't have to wait until they're grown up to make a difference.

For Andrea, community connection is an essential part of education. She continually looks for ways to connect local people, businesses, and events with the character traits students are learning at school, helping them see that kindness, responsibility, and leadership aren't just lessons in a classroom—they're choices they can make every day.

Outside school, Andrea is a passionate creative who loves just about every craft and hobby imaginable, tends a patio vegetable garden, and keeps moving with her three-year-old dog, Antonio. She's also a former member of Milwaukee's Brewcity Bruisers roller derby team, where she skated under the unforgettable name Steamy Wonder. It's safe to say her enthusiasm for life extends well beyond the school hallways.

Smiley, energetic, and endlessly creative, Andrea brings a little Parks and Recreation, Ted Lasso, and Community to everything she does: heart, humor, and a genuine belief in the people around her. Whether she's listening to a student over lunch, helping a child work through a tough day, or inspiring young leaders to give back, she reminds her students that they matter and that their actions have an impact.

Sometimes the most meaningful work happens in small moments—a child finding the courage to speak up, a student discovering they can lead, or someone realizing they have an adult in their corner. Andrea creates those moments every day, helping shape not only stronger students, but more compassionate, confident, and connected members of the Walworth County community.
